The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) has identified that there is an outbreak of COVID-19 at your child's school. An outbreak is defined as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or staff (or other visitors) with an epidemiological link (i.e. shared space with each other), within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have contracted COVID-19 in the school (including transportation and before/after school care).
The SMDHU has conducted an investigation and letters have been sent to anyone they have identified as a close contact. Please be assured that if you have not received a letter from the SMDHU, your child is not considered a close contact of the individual who tested positive for COVID-19. In this case, your child may continue to attend school if they complete and pass the daily COVID-19 school screening tool.
As always, please continue to:
- Monitor your child for symptoms of COVID-19 every day before school.
- Allow your child to attend school as long as your child does not have symptoms of COVID-19.
- Remind your child about the importance of masking, handwashing and physical distancing.
Due to privacy laws, the health unit will not release personal or identifying information about any staff or student who is ill, unless deemed necessary.
